If the Anfield axe finally falls on Rafael Benitez's head, the Spaniard will have no-one to blame but himself.
There has been talk of behind-the-scenes spats with the Reds' co-owners and former chief exec Rick Parry - but the man himself comes across as stubborn, arrogant and pompous in press conferences where he's supposed to be on his best behaviour, so god knows what he's like to work with.

It's still a few weeks before we welcome the thrills and spills of the Premier League back into our lives, but the race to reach England's top tier begins on August 8 and the two leading contenders for promotion lock horns at The Hawthorns on Saturday.
West Brom move up and down the top two divisions like a yo-yo, but that's no bad thing as it means £50million worth of Sky money comes into the club's coffers every other season.

I have to admit I'm pretty pleased Steve Coppell has resigned as Reading boss as they do seem to need a new face and it would've been an undignified end to his fantastic six-year tenure if he had been sacked by the Royals.
Reading's slump in form at the Madejski Stadium was the main reason behind their failure to secure a top-two finish in the Championship, and although they huffed and puffed against Burnley on Tuesday night they just didn't have the quality in front of goal to really threaten them.

The Championship play-off final is often described as the most lucrative one-off game in world football due to the £50m Premier League carrot dangling in front of the victorious team's nose.
But this weekend is even more mouthwatering, as there are three rivals fighting to join champions Wolves at England's top table.

You have to take your hat off to Arsene Wenger as he's done it again. Like Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, the Frenchman has reinvented his team's image more times than Madonna - and his latest crop look like they'll be in the thick of the race for the Premier League crown next season.
Arsenal fans have been a lucky bunch during Wenger's reign in North London, first seeing a team built around the skills of Bergkamp, pace of Anelka and creativity of Overmars. Then we had the class of Henry, Pires, Ljungberg and Vieira - arguably the best of the lot after doing the Double in unbelievable and breathtaking style.

The Premier League is widely regarded as the best division in European, if not world, football - and this week the cream of England justified that reputation.
A tricky last-16 draw meant Europe's heavyweights met each other far too early in the Champions League, with many hoping the likes of Inter v Man Utd, Chelsea v Juventus, Arsenal v Roma and Real Madrid v Liverpool would be mouthwatering semi-final showdowns.

Fabio Capello is doing a great job as England manager at the moment and is even hugely popular with the baying tabloid press pack.
There's one major reason why the Italian is being given much more freedom than Sven-Goran Eriksson - no, not the fact he keeps his little general in his pants, but the fact that there's hardly any English contenders putting pressure on his position.

So that's it, the transfer window has slammed shut with Arsenal somehow getting the capture of Arshavin tied up around 24 hours after the deadline.
There's no doubting the Russian is a class act but did the Gunners really need him, and where on earth is Wenger going to play everyone when Fabregas and Rosicky are back to full fitness?

Kaka may have dominated all the headlines this month - but there's one transfer which barely got a mention that could ultimately lead to the downfall of a Premier League club.
Hull City had a staggering start to life in the top tier - but the bubble has burst in recent weeks and they've lost their last 5 Prem games on the trot.

Well this month's transfer window has been the craziest I've ever known in my time as a sports writer and I've been racking my brains to figure out why.
One look at the Premier League table provides the answer...this season may have seen a dip in the quality levels, but it's the most competitive campaign in recent memory - at both ends of the table - and there are managers reaching for the panic button left, right and centre.

Thank god Kaka turned his back on Man City. I've been utterly flabbergasted by all the idiots saying 'it's City's money, they can do what they want' - the sheer thought of a footballer earning £500k a week was making me physically sick here at S4TL Towers.
And spending over £100m on one a player at a time when most of the world barely has a pot to piss in? I seriously think it would've hurt the reputation of football and turned a lot of people off the sport.
