A Royals Appointment

I have to admit I'm pretty pleased Steve Coppell has resigned as Reading boss as they do seem to need a new face and it would've been an undignified end to his fantastic six-year tenure if he had been sacked by the Royals.
Reading's slump in form at the Madejski Stadium was the main reason behind their failure to secure a top-two finish in the Championship, and although they huffed and puffed against Burnley on Tuesday night they just didn't have the quality in front of goal to really threaten them.
The hosts were undone by two truly fabulous strikes worthy of winning any contest, and Martin Paterson's 35-yard thunderbolt is a strong contender for Goal of the Season when you also consider its importance to the club.
So it's Burnley v Sheffield United in the £50million showdown at Wembley, and it's back to the drawing board for the Royals who must make the right appointment when choosing Coppell's successor.
I get the feeling Coppell could take a lengthy break from the managerial merry-go-round, and it'll be really interesting to see who takes the Reading reins.
Alan Pardew is an obvious contender, as is Alan Curbishley, and both men would probably do a decent job as Coppell has built a decent squad during his tenure at the club.
That squad could be dismantled this summer, though, as the likes of Everton and Aston Villa have been circling The Madejski for some time now with an envious eye on the likes of Stephen Hunt, Shane Long and Kevin Doyle.
Whoever takes charge, I'm sure the Royals will be up there with the promotion challengers once again next season.
I just hope whoever they entrust with taking the club forward is given time to find his feet even if there is a rocky start, as the likes of Charlton, Leeds and Southampton have paid the price of chopping and changing their manager on a regular basis - and Reading don't want to go down that slippery slope.
