Archived tips :
Portsmouth vs Tottenham
Shooter : Pompey are well and truly licking their wounds after shipping in 10 goals in the last 2 games and tumbling out of the Carling Cup. They have, however, played two top-four contenders whereas Spurs tip up bottom of the table, but slighty buoyed by their midweek win over the shambles that is Newcastle. I fancy a 1-1 draw.
Prediction : Draw Actual Result : Home Win
Looter : Spurs finally got a morale-boosting win in midweek, while Pompey were once again on the receiving end of a good hiding. But this is a big game for Meesrs Defoe, Campbell, Davis, Crouch and Kaboul who are all former Spurs and I think that will be incentive enough to help them to victory. 2-1
Prediction : Home Win Actual Result : Home Win
Wigan Ath vs Man City
Shooter : Wigan fired four past Ipswich in the Carling Cup, while City were dumped out in midweek after losing a penalty shoot-out. It's fair to say, however, that City's starting line-up at The JJB will be vastly different and their Fantastic Four of SWP, Elano, Robinho and Jo will have too much firepower for Bruce's Latics to contain. 0-1
Prediction : Away Win Actual Result : Home Win
Looter : These are two sides who suffered differing Carling Cup fortunes in midweek, though the difference being that City rested star performer Robinho, whereas Wigan were at full strength. I think it will be quite a fast-paced derby affair, but City are find momentum despite their cup blip and I think they'll have too much in attack for Wigan's rearguard. 0-3
Prediction : Away Win Actual Result : Home Win
Aston Villa vs Sunderland
Shooter : The games are coming thick and fast for Villa but Martin O'Neill spent well in the summer to assemble a bigger squad - and won't be too bothered by the cup defeat to QPR. All the big guns will return from midweek cup duty to face Keane's Cats, who are unbeaten on the road in the Prem but won't be able to handle the power and pace of Carew & Agbonlahor. 3-1
Prediction : Home Win Actual Result : Home Win
Looter : Villa's fine recent form was spectacularly ended by QPR in midweek so Martin O'Neill will expect an instant improvement from his troops. But Sunderland were victors here last season - as tipped by yours truly - and whilst a repeat might be asking too much, Roy's boys can still claim a point. 2-2
Prediction : Draw Actual Result : Home Win
Fulham vs West Ham
Shooter : Both London teams crashed out of the Carling Cup in midweek, but their weakened line-ups suggest Messrs Zola and Hodgson weren't too bothered about it. It's back to the Prem and the Hammers tore the Toon to pieces in Zola's first game, while Fulham were unlucky to be edged 1-0 at Ewood late doors. I reckon a score draw, 2-2.
Prediction : Draw Actual Result : Away Win
Looter : The London duo both crashed out of the Carling Cup in midweek and will both be looking for an immediate return to winning ways. It's very early to assess West Ham so far under Zola's tutelage, but they haven't been in great nick away from home all season, while the Cottagers are very much at home playing at home this term. A narrow home success for me, 2-1
Prediction : Home Win Actual Result : Away Win
Middlesbro' vs West Brom
Shooter : The Baggies were slightly lucky to only lose 2-1 to Villa at the weekend, as Carew ran them ragged. Defensively they're still finding their feet in the top flight, while Boro are full of creativity at home thanks to Downing, Alves, Mido and co. Despite losing at Old Trafford, they'll have too much class for Albion. 3-1
Prediction : Home Win Actual Result : Away Win
Looter : The Baggies have been in woeful form so far this term, but a trip to The Riverside should not hold too much trepidation. Boro are without Mido, the suspended Emanuel Pogatetz and one of the League's most underrated players in Tuncay, and I think those absences could prove crucial. I think Albion could come up trumps here. 1-2
Prediction : Away Win Actual Result : Away Win
Newcastle vs Blackburn
Shooter : The Magpies are lurching from one crisis to the next, and all this talk of a Nigerian takeover is not really helping matters as the players simply can't keep their focus on the pitch. There's also talk of El Tel riding into Toon for a brief tenure, but I still think Rovers have enough up front to leave St James' with the points. 1-3
Prediction : Away Win Actual Result : Away Win
Looter : The term rudderless ship isn't used lightly, but that can be very much applied to Newcastle at the moment. Nicky Butt aside, they looked woeful in their midweek defeat to Spurs and whilst they should improve amid speculation a managerial appointment is imminent - I only think they'll play out an unspectacular goalless draw. 0-0
Prediction : Draw Actual Result : Away Win
Stoke City vs Chelsea
Shooter : The Carling Cup tie with Pompey in midweek was a mere distraction for Big Phil Scolari, who has his eyes on bigger prizes this season but still oversaw a four-star display. The Blues are one team who will actually relish this physical battle with the powerful Potters, who rested most of their first team in the cup and will give it 100% - but simply be outclassed on the day. 0-2
Prediction : Away Win Actual Result : Away Win
Looter : The Blues might just have a fit-again Didier Drogba back in their side for the trip to Stoke, but it will be more about what John Terry does at the back as to how they will cope. Stoke's aerial assaults this term are already well documented, but that will be their one chance against a Blues side who probably won't have experienced much like the Potters. That said, quality should prevail - but only just. 2-3
Prediction : Away Win Actual Result : Away Win
Ipswich vs Crystal Palace
Shooter : Portman Road is more a tent than a fortress this season compared to last season's awesome form, and despite the cup walloping by Wigan they're still a handful on home turf in the Championship and take on a Palace team hovering above the dropzone after losing all three league games on the road so far. 2-0
Prediction : Home Win Actual Result : Draw
Looter : The Tractor Boys have already lost more games at home this term than they did last, but their record at Portman Road remains pretty formidable. Palace are on the other hand are having their usual slow start to the campaign, and whilst results will surely soon pick up, I'm not sure it will quite happen here at Portman Road, but they're certainly good enough to pick up a point. 1-1
Prediction : Draw Actual Result : Draw
Man Utd vs Bolton
Shooter : The Trotters have won this fixture in past seasons, but fans dreaming of another famous victory will be woken up by one name - Cristiano Ronaldo. The superstar netted against Boro in midweek and seems to be fully fit and raring to kickstart United's stuttering start. It was in this fixture a few years ago that Ronaldo first caught the eye with a dazzling display - and Gary Megson's battlers will have no answer to him once again after shipping in three to the Gunners. 3-0
Prediction : Home Win Actual Result : Home Win
Looter : This would be a hard enough assignment for Bolton at the best of times, but they'll face a United side that not only has Cristiano Ronaldo back in their ranks, but one which is chasing a first Prem win in 3 outings - something of a rarity in the SAF era. Bolton will welcome Gary Cahill back from a month-long absence, and whilst he won't be able to keep them out single-handedly, he could help keep the scoreline down to a creditable 1-0.
Prediction : Home Win Actual Result : Home Win
Blackpool vs Coventry
Shooter : Both teams achieved stunning 1-0 wins last time out in the league, against big-spending duo Birmingham and QPR respectively, and only a point separates them in the table so it'll be tight as confidence is high in both camps. I reckon a 1-1 draw.
Prediction : Draw Actual Result : Draw
Looter : The Seasiders have really picked up in recent weeks and go into this game having picked up a morale-boosting win at Birmingham last week. Coventry, meanwhile, have been inconsistent on the road but do look hard to beat so can pick up a draw here. 2-2
