Aston Villa vs Wigan Ath
Shooter : Villa drew a lot of home games last season, so that's something O'Neill will be looking to improve on, and I think Fabian Delph will turn out to be a tidy signing. It could be a season of struggle for Martinez's Latics so I'll go for a home win here, 2-0.
Prediction : Home Win Actual Result : Away Win
Looter : Villa are expected to go with height and power for the season opener, with Messrs Heskey and Carew set to start up front. Wigan have seen the bite ripped out of their midfield over recent months after the losses of Cattermole and Palacios, so may well lose their Villa Park opener. 2-0 for me.
Prediction : Home Win Actual Result : Away Win
Blackburn vs Man City
Shooter : Man City were dreadful away from Eastlands last season, but Hughes has added proven PL quality like Toure, Barry, Tevez and Adebayor to his squad and they know how to win home and away. Rovers look short in attack and may struggle for goals this season. 0-2
Prediction : Away Win Actual Result : Away Win
Looter : Big Sam has already warned Mark Hughes that spending big guarantees nothing - clearly an attempt to unsettle the cash-happy Eastlands club. The loss of Santa Cruz clearly still wrangles with Allardyce and although he won't play, any two of Tevez, Adebayor, Robinho still could. And with Nelsen and Samba doubtful, my money is on the away win. 1-2
Prediction : Away Win Actual Result : Away Win
Bolton vs Sunderland
Shooter : I think Bruce is a decent appointment for Sunderland, and Bent will bag 15 PL goals for them this season, starting at The Reebok. Megson says he wants to change Bolton's style - but a leopard can't change its spots. I'm going for an entertaining 2-2 draw.
Prediction : Draw Actual Result : Away Win
Looter : The Black Cats have spent well this summer, bringing in Cattermole and Bent who are sure to add experience and quality to their ranks. Bolton, sadly for them, look to have stood still and I fancy Sunderland to get Steve Bruce's reign off to a flyer. 0-2
Prediction : Away Win Actual Result : Away Win
Everton vs Arsenal
Shooter : This is a big, big season for Wenger after selling Toure and Adebayor - but I fancy the likes of RVP, Arshavin and Eduardo to get them off to a flyer at Goodison, where all the Toffees' focus has been on keeping Lescott from Man City's clutches. 1-2 I reckon.
Prediction : Away Win Actual Result : Away Win
Looter : The Gunners have endured mixed fortunes at Goodison Park, totting up two 4-1 wins, yet suffering three defeats in their last eight visits. Everton have been troubled by the Joleon Lescott saga all summer, so may well leave him on the sidelines in this one. That said, they won't want to lose and I think a draw looks most likely here. 1-1
Prediction : Draw Actual Result : Away Win
Portsmouth vs Fulham
Shooter : Hodgson did a fantastic job for the Cottagers last season and seems to be continuing that momentum in the Europa League. I really think Pompey will struggle under Hart, especially having sold Crouch and Johnson who earned a lot of their points last time out. 1-3
Prediction : Away Win Actual Result : Away Win
Looter : Pompey have seen the heart and soul ripped from their side which so proudly triumphed in the FA Cup final just 15 months ago. Fulham are already two competitive games into their season thanks to the Europa League, so I fancy them to go to Portsmouth and pinch the points. 0-1
Prediction : Away Win Actual Result : Away Win
Stoke City vs Burnley
Shooter : The term 'mortgage job' springs to mind here, despite Stoke's disastrous pre-season form. Ten home wins kept them up last season, and they might have Ashton and Beattie up front come kick-off. Burnley's summer signings have been ordinary to say the least. 2-0
Prediction : Home Win Actual Result : Home Win
Looter : The Potters had a formidable home record last term which contributed largely in their impressive survival. A campaign-opener against newly-promoted Burnley offers them a great chance to get off to a winning start, and although the Clarets will come and try to play football, Stoke's more direct approach should win the day. 3-1
Prediction : Home Win Actual Result : Home Win
Wolves vs West Ham
Shooter : Mick McCarthy is a man on a mission after a stinking time in the top flight with Sunderland, but the Molineux fans think they're a bigger club than they are, so I fancy Zola's Hammers to silence them and leave the Black Country with a well-earned point. 1-1
Prediction : Draw Actual Result : Away Win
Looter : Mick McCarthy has told Wolves they must make Molineux a fortress this term and a clash against West Ham offers them a decent chance to get off to a good start. Carlton Cole, however, is a man looking confident for the Hammers and I think he can pinch a draw for Gianfranco Zola's troops. 2-2
Prediction : Draw Actual Result : Away Win
Tottenham vs Liverpool
Shooter : Liverpool somehow lost this fixture last season despite totally dominating at White Hart Lane, but I think they'll miss Alonso more than they anticipate. They're vulverable at the back, and Harry has strikers coming out of his ears! A 'shock' home win, 2-1.
Prediction : Home Win Actual Result : Home Win
Looter : Liverpool came unstuck at White Hart Lane last season, despite outplaying Spurs for large periods of the game. The Reds' form in pre-season has been pretty shabby, and although this is where the real business starts, it's a tricky opener for Rafa Benitez's side and I feel confident an upset (of sorts) is on the cards. 2-1
Prediction : Home Win Actual Result : Home Win
Newcastle vs Reading
Shooter : The Magpies are a shambles from top to bottom and Chris Hughton is as useful as a chocolate teapot - but the Toon's starting XI against West Brom was still very strong for this division. I think the Royals have an appointment with a defeat here. 2-0
Prediction : Home Win Actual Result : Home Win
Looter : The Magpies got their campaign off to a respectable 1-1 draw away at West Brom last weekend, while Reading opened up with a goalless draw against Nottingham Forest. With neither side really wanting to give too much away against a side expected to be alongside themselves in the race for a top-six spot, I think another stalemate is on the cards here. 1-1
Prediction : Draw Actual Result : Home Win
Swansea vs Middlesbro'
Shooter : I fancy Boro to do OK this season due to the stability on and off the field with Southgate staying in charge. They'll be tough to break down home and away, so I fancy them to nick a counter-attack goal and pick up all three points from this one. 0-1
Prediction : Away Win Actual Result : Away Win
Looter : These sides will be meeting in the league for the first time in 25 years, so it's very difficult to assess how this one will develop. Boro started with a draw last week, while the Swans came unstuck at Leicester. It's a tough one to call, so I'll stick with a draw. 1-1
