Aston Villa vs Man City
Shooter : Villa finished a very creditable sixth last season, mainly because of Martin O'Neill. The Barry saga hasn't hindered them in the summer transfer market, and they'll have a virtually new defence (Friedel, Young, Shorey) to face Mark Hughes' City slickers, who will probably be unsettled and disrupted by all the Thaksin exit talk. A home win for me - but hard-fought. 2-1
Prediction : Home Win    Actual Result : Home Win
Looter : City are hardly in rude health going into this one, with the club's internal affairs threatening to dominate matters on the playing field. Villa, by contrast, have made real headway on the transfer front in the last couple of weeks and have assembled a really strong defence. I expect them to keep a clean sheet here and probably bag a couple in a comfortable win. 2-0
Prediction : Home Win    Actual Result : Home Win
Chelsea vs Portsmouth
Shooter : We are now talking years since Chelsea last lost at home, and that's under three different managers. Big Phil is at the Blues helm now and has added the likes of Deco to an already immense squad. Pompey are no mugs, though, and pose a real threat with Crouch and Defoe up front. I reckon Harry's boys will leave with a point. 1-1.
Prediction : Draw    Actual Result : Home Win
Looter : Pompey dug deep to hold Manchester United last weekend at Wembley and although they were second best for long periods, defensively they looked pretty formidable. The Blues made hard work of beating Birmingham in last season's opener and I just have a sneaky feeling Pompey might pinch a point. 1-1
Prediction : Draw    Actual Result : Home Win
Man Utd vs Newcastle
Shooter : United's main focus in the transfer window has been on keeping Ronaldo at the club, so they've signed no-one as yet - but it seems Berbatov is on his way. The Toon haven't added much, just two players, and are set for a season of mid-table obscurity after a defeat here at Old Trafford. 3-0
Prediction : Home Win    Actual Result : Draw
Looter : The Magpies shipped a barrage of goals against United last term, and went down 6-0 to a Ronaldo-inspired Red Devils side at Old Trafford. There might not be an avalanche this time, but with Newcastle looking toothless in attack, there can only be one result. 2-0
Prediction : Home Win    Actual Result : Draw
West Ham vs Wigan Ath
Shooter : Wigan were one of the division's form teams towards the end of last season, and Bruce has made some shrewd summer additions to his squad in the form of Cattermole and Kapo. The Hammers have some of their crocked stars back, but I reckon Latics will leave London with a point on the board. 2-2
Prediction : Draw    Actual Result : Home Win
Looter : The knives are being sharpened for Curbishley even before a ball has been kicked and I think anything less than an early goal could see the crowd get on the manager's back. Wigan, by contrast, have been razor sharp in pre-season beating Utrecht away last weekend and I genuinely expect a repeat here. 0-2
Prediction : Away Win    Actual Result : Home Win
Middlesbro' vs Tottenham
Shooter : It has been like Groundhog Day for Spurs fans this summer...Ramos' men have again been red-hot in pre-season, with Bent emerging from Keane's shadow to score goals for fun - they always start badly, though, while Boro have a real spearhead in Alves and a class supplier in Downing. I think there'll be goals in this one but it's hard to call, so I'm plumping for a score draw. 2-2 or even 3-3.
Prediction : Draw    Actual Result : Home Win
Looter : A tough one to call though Spurs - with Bentley and Modric excelling - have been red hot in pre season. Boro though usually rise to the occasion against the more fancied teams and I think they can battle their way to a precious point at The Riverside. 2-2
Prediction : Draw    Actual Result : Home Win
Southampton vs Birmingham City
Shooter : Super Kev ensured Blues got off to a flying start, but it wasn't pretty to watch and I've got a sneaky feeling Saints will take all three points at St Mary's. They had a good pre-season and I can't see Blues keeping a clean sheet, so a home win for me. 2-0
Prediction : Home Win    Actual Result : Away Win
Looter : Blues got off to a flying start last weekend thanks, in no small part, to the striking instincts of Super Kev. He'll surely be in line for a start here against one of his former clubs and I think he'll lead the way to victory again against a Saints side, who are destined for another relegation scrap this term. 0-3
Prediction : Away Win    Actual Result : Away Win
Bolton vs Stoke City
Shooter : An unstoppable force meets an immovable object. This is not a game for the purists, in fact Martin Johnson should be scouting as there'll be plenty of up and unders. Bolton dodged the bullet last season but have added some class to their ranks in Elmander and Muamba. Stoke are organised and powerful, but I think it'll be the Trotters' who emerge victorious from this arm wrestle. 2-0
Prediction : Home Win    Actual Result : Home Win
Looter : Bolton v Stoke will hardly be the most attractive game in the top flight this term, but it's one that Stoke can win. The Trotters are probably the nearest thing in terms of style to the Potters and it might come down to who outmuscle's who. But I just have a feeling that Stoke might score early and defend for their lives on their way to a gigantic three points. 0-1
Prediction : Away Win    Actual Result : Home Win
Sunderland vs Liverpool
Shooter : The Black Cats, aka Sunderland Hotspur, toppled Tottenham on opening day last season - and have a decent record against the Reds at home. Keane has spent his money well, mainly on Spurs players, and they'll be tough to beat on home turf this season. Rafa bagged Keane but is still waiting on Barry - I reckon it'll be a point apiece. 1-1
Prediction : Draw    Actual Result : Away Win
Looter : It's an early test for Liverpool's title credentials and they'll know a winning start is vital. But Sunderland have bought well over the summer and can easily throw an early spanner in the works of their title hopes. Expect El-Hadji Diouf to be the key man in an entertaining draw. 1-1
Prediction : Draw    Actual Result : Away Win
Everton vs Blackburn
Shooter : The Toffees have hardly got stuck into this summer's market, in fact they've not signed one single new player, leading to rumours of Moyes departing the club. Rovers have swapped Friedel for Robinson in net and signed Roque Santa Cruz's younger brother - but there's talk of player mutiny at Ewood over Ince's managerial style, so all is not well in their camp and I think they'll come unstuck at Goodison. 2-0
Prediction : Home Win    Actual Result : Away Win
Looter : These North-west rivals have probably over-performed in recent seasons and it might be just too much to ask in hoping for a repeat - especially when both 'boast' squads that are marginally weaker than last term. But Everton are pretty tough to beat on their home turf and I expect them to grind out a gritty 1-0 success.
Prediction : Home Win    Actual Result : Away Win
Hull City vs Fulham
Shooter : When this fixture first got announced Tigers fans were rubbing their hands at an easy three points from their Prem opener. But Fulham have spent wisely this summer, and now have a forward line of Zamora and Johnson which will deliver top-flight goals. The atmosphere will be electric but Roy's boys showed real fight and character to stay up last season, and impressed most on the road during the run-in. 1-3
Prediction : Away Win    Actual Result : Home Win
Looter : The Tigers have really struggled for goals this pre-season and whilst they might end their drought against one of the league'e weaker backlines, I think Andy Johnson - if fit - can be the catalyst to helping Fulham claim a vital away win. 1-2
Prediction : Away Win    Actual Result : Home Win
